Street Style, Stockholm Style, and daily shedding videos. Where is the line between trying to find a category for yourself in a fun, exciting way and not being able to experiment, try new things, and break free from societal boxes?
Why is it that every month, there’s a new beauty routine or style that women feel the need to do? And I am not immune to this -- I don’t like not knowing what face shape I have, or what color is my perfect eye shadow. But at what point is it restricting us from trying and failing? From figuring out our own style, and not worrying about what some random TikTok with 35k likes says?
It is difficult to be a woman. To age gracefully these days means getting Botox early and putting scar cream on your smile lines. Men aren’t even told to put on cream that stops them from balding, and here women put tape over their mouths in the night to get the perfect, fresh face.
My goal in life has always been to understand myself on a very deep, intimate level. To try to shed away the boxes that we have been taught since birth, and really attempt to understand my own balance and way of doing things.
I wanted to highlight both the struggle and the absolute beauty that comes with experimenting through looks that may work, or may not. The combination of soft, feminine looks with harsher “alien” makeup is to create a juxtaposition of beauty, along with the question of what type of beauty do you want to show the world? It’s important to let the noise drown around you sometimes and show the world who you truly are. Which, of course, can be very difficult, especially if you’re not quite sure you know who you are. But how will you know if you don’t try? Be a freak, an alien; experiment with who you are. It’s the only way to, in my opinion, be truly beautiful.
