While studying and cataloguing the most recent Fashion Weeks (Fall 2026 and Spring 2027), I noticed some trends starting to appear in the Ready-to-Wear section.

One thing I could not keep my eyes off was the amount of burgundy and bright pinks there were. These past couple of years have leaned heavily towards the “natural” colors, very minimalist clean girl, but I am genuinely excited about this pop of color. Two years ago, we saw butter yellow, which was the first glimpse of moving back towards color, but now, in my opinion, we have an even better and bolder color: this shade of pink/burgundy. I would consider styling a jacket with this color, or a bag.

Truthfully, I am shocked to see teal make such a massive comeback. Every girl had this color painted on her wall in 2009, and now it is back on the runway. Getting a dress in this color would be both very on-trend and high fashion.

Now if you ask me, statement necklaces have never truly been “out.” I love a bold piece of jewelry, and I always will. However, the “statement necklaces” of 2012 have been very much made fun of these past couple of years, and I am bearing the news to you all that the jokes are over. There were very few major shows these past two seasons that were not sporting at least one look with a statement necklace, so it’s time to dig in your closet and pull them out!

Speaking of statements, big belts are absolutely a must-have for this spring season. Very retro, but incredibly fun! I would pair it with a blazer, a skirt, or a simple dress.

2016 is SO back. Lace camis over a regular shirt, bomber jackets, rompers, and dresses with those EXACT cutouts. Everyone wanted a dress just like Stella McCartney’s Spring 2027 Ready-to-Wear look back in 2016, and I get the feeling everyone is going to want it again. No need to look back at your old outfits and cringe; it is considered cool once again.

I won’t lie, this one is hard for me, but I do believe that 2016 might not be the only year having a resurgence: 2012 is back. Chevron, bold colors with blocky patterns, pastels, and clothes with reflection were all seen on the runway and will soon trickle down to the masses. It’s going to be considered vintage and cool, somewhat ironic but also deeply nostalgic.

I have always been a contrasting pattern queen, but thank GOD we are breaking free from the minimalism shackles that held society for far too long. Try pairing together clothes that you feel might not “work,” and see the magic that unfolds.

Tutus, sophisticated preppy looks, and drop waists — I wanted to throw in a few examples that I think will also grace the streets of New York City over the next couple of months. I am a big fan of the tutu look, very Carrie Bradshaw in the theme song of Sex and the City. The “Gossip Girl” sophisticated look has never, and will never, truly go out of style, but I think we will start to see a rise in more people leaning that way. And of course, the low-waisted moment began years ago, but dresses will soon reflect that to the extreme. Think 1920s flapper drop waist, extreme.
Fashion will always reflect society and the times we are living in, and truthfully these seasons gave me a bit of hope. I think there will be a pushback to society’s “bleak” standards right now. Reading the news is scary, corporate jobs are lifeless, and no one can afford to party like we used to in the 2010s. Because of this, I think that not only will the underground scene start to truly flourish, but there will be almost a sense of resistance in the clothes we wear. Bright colors despite the state of the world, statement jewelry that makes you feel something. Going back to 2012 and 2016 is very interesting to me. 2016, in many ways, was a golden year — my generation all look back at that year with such fondness, so it makes sense that we are trying to revert back to that happiness we collectively felt then. And of course, 2012 was before the internet took over in such a serious way. Today, you can’t go anywhere without seeing an ad for AI, and 2012 reminds us of simpler times that we can all relate to.
These themes will not just be daily reminders of what we lost, but what we can get back as well. Fashion trends come and go, and so too shall this bleak time pass.
